Went to Abbey when my dogs arrived in the country earlier this year after being abroad for four years and needing a vet. They are great. Dr. Kuhlman has been our vet since we started going there, and has always taken time to answer questions, and even see us with little to no notice. Their prices are also super reasonable. I can't recommend them enough.
Great atmosphere. The clinic was clean. Everyone was polite and eager to help. My cat Sprinkles is sick and I was able to get an appointment within a few days. Dr. Travis accessed Sprinkles and he was very compassionate and knowledgeable. I can tell that he genuinely loves animals. I appreciate the fact that he gave us realistic options for caring for her and I could tell that he was speaking from the heart. His assistant was great with Sprinkles and I can tell that she genuinely loves animals as well. I had a great first experience and will be returning.
I used Abbey for 8 years to provide veterinary service including checkups for my older cat. This was between 2012 and Aug of 2020. Unfortunately, during 2020, my cat started getting in poorer health. Finally, due to a decrease in the quality of life, it was mutually decided to put her down. She was 18 at the time. During all my visits over the 8 years, I received excellent service and also, very friendly service. Being very old myself, I decided not to get another pet, so I have had no reason to return to Abbey. But I can very strongly recommend their services.
Staff is so kind and accommodating! I know my dog will always get the best care here.
I would just like to express my major discontent with this practice. I called a few months ago to plan for my cat's spay surgeries, I was given great detail about what I would need to do in order to have them evaluated for surgery, including prices; however not a single person was able to tell me a round-about pricing for the spaying services. No one could tell me whether it was $5 or $5,000. All they could tell me was that I needed to spend about $400 per cat in order to then be told the price by the doctor. Not to mention, the bloodwork was only "good" for 30 days. So after spending about $800 for two cats, I'd then have to book the spay for both animals within 30 days WITHOUT any indication as to how much the service would be. How in the world can someone financially plan for something when they are given no indication of cost? AND i'm expected to book and pay for that service within 30 days of putting out nearly $1,000... It seems beyond odd to me that you give a service but refuse to give the cost of anything so people can appropriately plan. I also called a dozen other pet med services in the immediate area and every single one was able to give me a cost analysis for their spay services. . I was told by many people at local animal hospitals that it seemed like AbbeyMed was simply trying to get as much money from me as possible, seeing as I'd just brought the cats in for an evaluation/check up in June. At the end of the day, it seemed like I was greatly inconveniencing the Manager I spoke to by even existing on the phone...to ask about a service..for the business they work for...
I turned to the MD SPCA as they had rates and information readily available. After having my cats spayed yesterday, I was instructed to contact their primary vet for further medications to keep them calm and sedated. I had a friend who has worked in the vet med field for over a decade call this morning as I already felt too uncomfortable speaking with your office to call. Upon saying who she was calling for, the woman on the phone immediately told her that she believed the cats hadn't been seen in more than a year which is A) literally impossible as the cats are only ten months old and B) just a straight up lie. All the person who answered the phone had to do was to look at their file and see that they last had a check up together in June, one was actually there in August. But instead she wanted to just immediately write her off instead of doing her literal job of helping your clients.
Upon my calling in the afternoon to try and mitigate the situation as my cats are actively uncomfortable and I had not received a call back, I was told that the cats haven't been seen in 6 months, so they'd need another check up. SO is it a year or six months? This practice seems to make up the rules as they go, seeing as every veterinary practice and human doctor for that matter requires a yearly exam for any medications to be prescribed. I again called vets in the area to confirm this and they suggested that this practice was just money grabbing. Not only do I have all the information from the SPCA but they were seen about 8 months ago. When I called months ago to try and schedule the initial appointments, I was also repeatedly told that they had to be seen within the year, but now it's six months because...they said so?
In the circumstance of my pets having surgery yesterday and asking for a mild sedative from their primary doctor - to basically ask for more money to see them again when they are up to date on their yearly evaluation and required vaccines just sounds like you are trying to make more money off of me. To ask a client to pay for an exam when they’re utd on their yearly, no illness and no need for an emergency appointment, but to just get medication is ludicrous.
These interactions have made it a simple thought to just pay another clinic and have them proceed with my pets care, then to keep the “care” of my pets with a staff like yours who seem to not want to actually help anyone but make it as inconvenient as possible to receive care.
Been taking my pets there for a long time. There care is exceptional. The doctors and all the staff are loving and genually care about your pets.
My wife and I recently adopted a puppy and Abbey Animal Hospital has been providing excellent care to our dog. They're also extremely knowledgeable. Couldn't recommend them enough.
Good location, the veterinarian was awesome. “Sid” was awesome. One of the receptionist at the front desk could work on being a bit more friendly. Many appointment reminders. They do not offer 3 month rabies vaccine so I may get them somewhere else. Indoor only healthy kittens and young adult cats should not be getting 6 month well exams it’s traumatizing to the cat and expensive for the owners.
